This picture is very special to me, designed by my mother-in-law (who has passed), painted by a local artist, and passed down to me after she went to glory. It was inspired by Luke 8:40-45, The woman who bled for 12 years and had spent all her livelihood on physicians to no avail.
Luke 8:40,Luke 8:42-48 NKJV
In the woman’s reach, I see: desperation, longing, hope. If only I could make it to the teacher, the healer, some say is The Messiah. I don’t want to bother him. He’s flanked by the crowd. I need only to touch his hem.
Woman: Ohhh…! Strength, infused me. It’s real!
Jesus: “Who touched Me?”
Woman: He’s asking about me? I shouldn’t be here!
Peter: “Master, the Multitudes throng and press you, and you say, ‘Who touched Me?’”
46 But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” 47 Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately.
48 And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.”
What I love about this account:
– Someone of higher societal importance requested Jesus’ attention first, Jairus.
– She had a monologue of faith, “If I can, He will.…”
– Jesus knew all things. He knew who touched His hem. He wanted a personal encounter with her not just a swing by healing.
– He calls her Daughter! What a tender expression of endearment. Belonging!
– He wants her to be at rest, joyful even.
– He acknowledges her faith.
What need might you bring to Jesus? Something you’ve endured a long time? Spent lots of money with professionals to fix, or be healed, all for not? Bring it to the Master. In faith, believe:
– He is enough.
– He cares for you as an individual.
– There’s no hierarchy with Him.
– He cares for you as His own.
– He has your good in mind, including joy and peace!
Note: A swing by won’t do. He’ll want to look you in the eye and affirm you are His.
